French company Archos has been making portable multimedia players and for more than 10 years, but in the last few years they have create a name for it in making the low cost Android tablet space. The company has announced plans for its next generation of Android tablets a few weeks ago. Archos said they continue to focus on aiming for the medium range pricing. The details have been first reported by bestofmicro.com from what they heard at Archos investors meeting. The next generation is known as Gen9 tablets by Archos.
Let us have a look at some of the details made available:
-Archos will be the vey first one to announce the fastest processor in a tablet ever, ARM Cortex-A9 Dual-core 1.6Ghz. Still going with a HDD allows them to be a bit cheaper and also offer large storage capacities of 250GB hard drives.
-Archos also plans to offer its first tablets with 3G mobile broadband connectivity in 2011. Though the details of how they will be implementing it are not yet available, but they may be doing it with some kind of modem module that can be added or swapped. This will surely make the tablet compatible with all types of cellular networks available and expected in future.
– Archos will be aiming the 6 different sizes for Gen9 tablets ranging from 5″ to 10″ as their Gen8 7″ and 10″ got much more popularity.
– Some of the 6 sizes for Gen9 tablet may come with hard drive options like 250GB or 320 GB.
Archos 9th generation of tablets is expected to be announced officially announced in June. Archos is well positioned to have a growing impact in the low price tablet space, with Android powered systems selling for between 100€ and 400€ (about $140 to $566 US).
