Since the launch of Google Galaxy Nexus or as some say Nexus Prime, ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) has been on the role. While the reviews are not that great on Galaxy Nexus as its a new device and would require a number of new updates to be at a certain level. On the contrary, Google Nexus S (predecessor of the current version), has received OTA Ice Cream Sandwich update. We have been testing it for now and ICS does work like a charm on Nexus S.
Gaining all the reviews and comments from Nexus S users, we can easily state that ‘it has taken Nexus S to the next level’, in terms of user interface (of course), control, compatibility, and every other little aspect you want to name. In this post we’ll show you how to easily root your updated Nexus. If you’ve had root access before the update, its gone now. A re-root is required to gain it back with the newer and updated ICS.
Before getting into the root process, make sure your device is un-locked. Make sure, all your data is backed up to be on the safe side. If you’re device is unlocked, then nothing would be lost except for, a quick gain to root access.
Root Nexus S Running IceCream Sandwich
1. Download Recovery for Nexus S. (click here)
2. Plug Nexus with USB cable with USB debugging enabled.
3. Extract the downloaded files on desktop.
4. Double click ‘Run.bat’ and follow the on screen prompts.
Make sure to read the prompts carefully, before hitting any key to continue. It will direct you to mount the downloaded files, making it possible for you to gain root. After 4 prompts, your phone will be rooted.
Reboot Nexus S and your device has successfully gained root. To make sure, you have gained root access, tools like root apps or root checker can be downloaded from Android market. Awsomeness!, now you can enjoy the fun of ICS with full root access.
