The HTC Thunderbolt launched 10 days ago, is the very first 4G LTE handset on Verizon with Android 2.2. The HTC Thunderbolt is a screaming fast 4G handset considering it only has a 1 Ghz single core processor. It has a 4/3″ screen and 768MB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage. Users bothered by some compatibility issues with Bluetooth will be happy to know that in an uplifting email reply, HTC representatives assured about the Thunderbolt update in this summer (second quarter of the 2011), yet a big update for the device. Though the Bluetooth issue will not addresses, Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be available to the 4G handset. Must be encouraging news about the update. HTC’s response included this little nugget of information:
“We are excited to announce that the Thunderbolt will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Q2 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability”.
The HTC promises a number of up grading to speed up the experience. Gingerbread improvements for HTC Thunderbolt include:
– Internet calling
– Open API for native audio
– Improved power management
– One-touch word selection and copy/paste
– Better gaming performance and graphics management
– An optional 2750 mAh battery to improve the battery life
– UI refinements which promise to speed up the experience
– New media framework fully replaces OpenCore, AAC encoding, and a host of behind the scenes network improvements.
While foe many this Gingerbread update seems to be remarkably soon as Thunderbolt has just launched a week ago. But remember Thunderbolt was officially reported to launch in early February but was delayed until late March. But it must be exciting that Thunderbolt owners out there will have Gingerbread on their devices in two months or less.
